Aetna and Invisalign

Date April 24, 2009

Aetna is a popular insurance company that also includes dental insurance. Many people that have aetna insurance and wish for straight teeth often wonder about Aetna and Invisalign, as opposed to traditional braces. There are many questions to consider with Aetna and Invisalign - such as, will Aetna cover the cost of Invisalign? Will Aetna at least cover part of the cost of Invisalign? If not, am I better off getting traditional braces?

Local Invisalign Dentists can advise you more on Aetna and Invisalign.

Although it can be considered cosmetic dentistry when compared to regular braces, insurance companies usually discriminate against Invisalign. Many times, they will cover a percentage of the total cost of orthodontic treatment up to a certain value, regardless of the type of treatment is being used.

Aetna considers Invisalign® and any similar orthodontic system that uses aligners as “comprehensive orthodontic treatment”. When it comes to Aetna and Invisalign, each insurance plan defines which services are excluded, covered, and which are subject to other limits such as dollar caps. Members and their orthodontists will need to consult the member’s benefits plan to determine if there are any exclusions or other benefits limitations applicable to Invisalign.

This could also vary by state. So if you are interested in Invisalign and you are with Aetna dental insurance, be sure to check with your dentist.
